Health and Safety
Travel safety, personal safety, and health - both maintenance and emergency is a serious topic with many areas to cover. This section will continue to be expanded as equipment selections, certifications are accomplished, etc are obtained.
Travel safety on the seas can be broken down into several categories.

Let’s review them individually:
THEFT
The most common issue is petty theft. Petty theft of the boat equipment, personal belongings and dinghy theft can be prevented in most part by properly locking and securing the equipment. Then there is a very small probability of the entire yacht being stolen if unattended. Most marinas and moorings are secure, but in the event of these issues occurring, there are companies that provide technology for prevention and tracking. Sailing Vessel 7 Seas Kahani will be equipped with a state of the GOST Yacht Security Monitoring and Satellite Tracking system. In addition, the boat will be equipped with not-lethal means to protect the sailors aboard.
Global Ocean Security Technologies (GOST) offers a full line of state-of-the-art wireless security, monitoring, satellite tracking, surveillance, acoustic deterrents and cloaking systems for any size vessel from tenders to ships. Their systems help protect against theft, fire, smoke, high water in the bilge, low voltage, loss of shore power and intrusion with contact sensors, motion detectors, infrared beam sensors, deck sensors, dock pull away sensors and many more. It’s sensors, sirens, acoustic sound barriers and flashing lights can chase off intruders before the boat is ever stolen and needs to be tracked. A vessel never stolen is always in better shape than one that has been recovered.
GOST is a proven marine security company, recognized and awarded a medal from the US Coast Guard for assistance in vessel recovery. They have successfully recovered dozens of vessels through an award winning GOST Nav-Tracker system which utilize the two way Inmarsat satellite constellation, the same satellites used by the US Defense Department and mandated by the IMO to have 99.99% reliability globally. They offer true global coverage, everywhere except the most extreme north and south poles.
GOST offers all components needed for complete vessel protection. We will have external onboard cameras, control of any AC or DC accessories onboard, and global satellite tracking from a website or smart phone using one of the free apps. Customized systems, options and devices are seamlessly integrated to meet most international maritime security requirements.
EMERGENCY SEARCH AND RESCUE
EPIRB: Most ocean-going vessels carry EPIRBS, and SV 7 Seas Kahani is no exception. EPIRB stands for Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon EPIRB and is used to alert search and rescue services in the event of an emergency. It does this by transmitting a coded message on the 406 MHz distress frequency via satellite and earth stations to the nearest rescue co-ordination center.
Our EPIRB also have built-in dual GPS which enables the rescue services to accurately locate us to +/- 50 meter.
EPIRBs are generally installed on the boat and can either be operated automatically after an incident or manually. In most countries they are mandated to be used in all commercial shipping.
GlobalFix™ iPRO has a digital display that allows us to see all of the beacon's operational activities. The screen displays
GPS LAT/LON, operating instructions, usage tips, transmission bursts as well as battery power.
GlobalFix™ PRO offers the very latest in marine electronic lifesaving technology:
· Highly visible LED strobe is energy efficient
· High efficiency electronics for performance you can count on
· Professional grade design is engineered, tested and built for years of abusive marine use
· Ergonomic, compact design; smallest, most feature-rich EPIRB available
GEOS SAR: Sailing Vessel 7 Seas Kahani will have the Search and Rescue membership for the GEOS product. In addition, the vessel will be equipped with fully provisioned 8-man life raft exceeding the US Coast Guard standards. The boat and the life raft will be equipped with EPIRB (emergency position-indicating radio beacon) device that will send a Help message and the exact position from anywhere in the world.

The GEOS Search and Rescue (SAR) membership is available to anyone that wants to become a GEOS member. The membership benefit offers an expense reimbursement for qualifying expenses related to sailor’s search and rescue should one be required. The SAR benefit requires that the member alert the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC) by sending a distress signal on a GEOS Supported Device. The emergency operations personnel at the IERCC will immediately contact the agency responsible for conducting search and rescue missions in the area that your signal was transmitted from. The IERCC will stay in constant contact with the SAR team to ensure if they need additional resources, GEOS will help make those available. The GEOS IERCC is involved until you are safely out of harm’s way. There are multiple levels of SAR memberships. All SAR memberships are for reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses and are not insured products, they are truly membership benefits. All Search and Rescue memberships can be purchased for an individual, couple, family or even a group.

MEDICAL EVACUATION FOR HIGH RISK
If needed, for high adventure or exploration and need a higher level of MEDEVAC with fewer restrictions then this annual plan covers this. It combines the GEOS Search and Rescue High Risk benefit with their MEDEVAC365 membership plan for the best coverage that can be found with the fewest restrictions possible. To take advantage of this membership's SAR benefit, the boat must have a GEOS approved device and use it in the case of a Search and Rescue type of incident. Understand that the GEOS Approved Device is not a replacement for an EPIRB, which should be activated in addition, for any life-threatening emergencies. The GEOS IERCC monitors virtually all Satellite Emergency Notification Devices (S.E.N.D.) that are registered with GEOS. If the boat uses one that requires owner registration, such as the Iridium Go!, Iridium Extreme or the Inmarsat iSAT2, the device must be registered with GEOS.

KIDNAPING/PIRACY
Potentially the most serious but least likely, kidnapping is an extremely rare event as cruising is one of the safest ways to travel. By properly selecting the routes, the probability of kidnapping is virtually eliminated. While three kidnapping cases around Somalia and the Philippines have grabbed the worldwide attention, the absolute number is extremely small. The US State Department and cruising website www.noonsite.com maintains meticulous track of Cruiser’s crime related issues. These organizations also issue real-time travel warnings to part of the world where problems may arise, helps to coordinate safety flotillas in questionable areas, and provides other information for safe passage. In addition, the overall Cruisers Community is a close-knit community and as problems occur, the information is passed on at ports around the world.
